i-cord
center double decrease (cdd)

pattern

Cast on 3 stitches and work an i-cord for the stem.

Set-Up Row (WS): k1, p1, k1
Row 1 (RS): k1, m1R, k1, m1L, k1
Row 2: k to middle stitch, sl 1 wyif, k to end
Row 3: k1, m1R, k to last st, m1L, k1
Row 4: repeat Row 2

Repeat Rows 3 and 4 until your leaf reaches the desired width.

NOTE: Throughout the leaf, you can intersperse the following Rows 5 and 6 in place of either Rows 3 and 4 or Rows 7 and 8. Adding in these extra rows will lengthen the leaf without changing the width.

Row 5: k all the way across
Row 6: repeat Row 2

Repeat Rows 5 and 6 a few times (not too many).

Row 7: k to 1 st before middle stitch, cdd, k to end
Row 8: repeat Row 2

Repeat Rows 7 and 8 until you have 1 stitch left.
Cut yarn and pull through final stitch.

The fabric of the leaf will curl right off the needles, so be sure to block aggressively for the flattest shape!
