edelwood hat

edelwood hat takes its name from the fictional edelwood tree, an important figure in the cartoon network miniseries, over the garden wall. the irregular pattern of the ribbing is meant to resemble the exceptionally twisty bark of this tree. this hat is lightweight and perfect for autumn!

Using a long-tail cast-on, cast on 120 (144) stitches (if you want a tighter brim, begin with the US 2 needles).

Place a stitch marker to mark the beginning and end of the round.

brim of the hat

Rounds 1 – 8: *k4, p2, repeat from * to end of round

(If you want a taller of shorter hat, this is the place to add or subtract rounds.)

body of the hat

The pattern for the body is worked exactly the same for each size–the only difference is that the “smallish” size has 5 repeats of 24 stitches each, while the “largeish” size has 6. It might be helpful to place stitch markers between each repeat.

If you began on US 2 needles, switch to US 3s.

This section of the pattern is also included in chart form, at the end of the written instructions.
