- Acrylic yarns can stretch a lot in the washer and dryer.
- The standard method of working wrap and turn short rows on the knit side is not reversible and therefore cannot be used in garter stitch if the short rows are worked from the wrong side. For wraps that are nearly identical on the right and wrong side, follow this tutorial instead.
- Rule Of Thumb: The circumference of the thumb of a mitten should be roughly 40% the circumference of the palm.
- In addition to creating a less stretchy fabric, corrugated ribbing also produces a taller row gauge.
- To minimize laddering with DPNs, use left needle to pull the second stitch before knitting it, and continue to distribute extra yarn through next stitches. NOTE: This will not get rid of laddering completely.ANOTHER NOTE: Just use magic loop.
- Assuming the body and sweater are both cylinders, divide positive ease by pi to find out how close-fitting the garment will be. (Multiply this number by 2 for the greatest distance of fabric when one edge is touching you.)
- Aggressive blocking is your friend, but do not stretch items meant to fit with negative ease (e.g. hats) because they will not revert.
- How to hold DPNs: Left end of left needle under subsequent needle, right end of right needle over previous needle.
- Do not try to do a magic circle with a woolen-spun yarn!
- The first slipped stitch on the right side of linen stitch has the tendency to be tight, which makes this edge tighter and shorter than the other edge. Keep it loose!
